My name is Scott Moore. I am a 4th degree black belt in judo. I have been in judo for 22 years and for many of those years I competed at the elite level. In 1998 I won the World Championship in Madrid, Spain. In 2000 I became the first American to win a Gold medal in judo in either the Olympics or Paralympics when I won the Paralympic Games in Sydney, Australia. I also won bronze medals in the 1996 and 2004 Paralympic Game in Atlanta, GA, and Athens, Greece.
I retired from competition in 2007 after the 2007 World Championships in Rio de Janeiro. When I was training, I was running around 3-5 miles per day, 3-4 day per week and lifting weight and doing 2 hours per day of judo 5-6 days per week, so I didn’t have to worry too much about my weight other than keeping my weight down for competition.
